What is aromatherapy?
So, you have probably heard that aromatherapy is great for healing, promoting relaxation and overall wellness, but what is it exactly? Aromatherapy oils can be used to relieve headaches, cure cuts and burns, and relax muscles. The oils are extracted from various parts of plants after they go through a steam distillation process. Candles, essential oils, and incense are all great options to incorporate aromatherapy into your wellness routine!
EUCALYPTUS
Eucalyptus is traditionally used for its purifying, immune-boosting, antiseptic and clarifying properties. It can be used directly on the skin or for aromatherapy. It’s invigorating scent will aid in deep breathing, clearing the mind, and soothing muscles when applied to the skin. Feeling congested? Light a eucalyptus candle during your next bath, breathe deeply and feel refreshed!
LAVENDER
Lavender is most well known for its soothing properties. When used in aromatherapy, the scent of lavender sends calming signals to the brain, allowing the body to relax. Feeling stressed, anxious, or exhausted? Maybe all of the above? Lavender can help. Use this when you need relief from a headache or if you are experiencing feelings of stress or anxiety. Spray some on your pillow before you go to sleep to help you sleep more deeply.
PATCHOULI OIL
Patchouli oil is a great mood stabilizer and can aid in uplifting negative moods. Ditch those bad vibes and use this scent when you are looking to feel more grounded, promote relaxation, ease tension, and improve cognitive function!
ORANGE OIL
Orange oil is known for its cheerful, uplifting properties, while simultaneously relaxing the body. It stimulates the body’s circulation, so it helps with headaches, stress relief, and gives your immune system a boost. Start your morning off on the right foot by adding a few drops to your moisturizer!
PEPPERMINT OIL
Peppermint oil is one of the best and most versatile essential oils. It is best used to relieve pain as well as to invigorate and energize the body. Because peppermint boosts circulation, it is great for aches and pains like tired feet, sore muscles, and mental fatigue. Add a few drops to your next bath or a bit to your moisturizer to soothe sore muscles!
When purchasing essential oils, be sure to get 100% pure, therapeutic grade oils. Essential oils should be diluted when applied to the skin with carrier oils, water, or lotions. Consult a physician before using essential oils if you have any health concerns or are pregnant. As a general rule of thumb, when using new products on the skin, do a patch test!
